Rental agreement
Last updated: 2 October 2026
About this page
This page summarises the main terms of the rental agreement that you sign when you pick up the car. Please read it before you book.
A booking on our website is a request. It is not yet a contract. We check availability and reply by email or WhatsApp. On this page we call this reply your "booking confirmation". It gives you the final price, how to pay the deposit, and the terms listed in What your booking confirmation tells you. Your booking is confirmed when you pay the deposit. From that moment, the booking is binding for you and for us.
At pick-up you sign the rental agreement. Read it before you sign, and ask us about anything that is not clear. If the rental agreement says something different from this page or from your booking confirmation, the term that is more favourable to you applies.
This page is available in several languages. The English text is the reference text. If a translation is unclear, we read it in the way that is more favourable to you.
The company, you and the car
The rental agreement is between:
- Us: Dune Tribe Rent a Car LLC, a limited liability company of the Sultanate of Oman, Commercial Registration No. 1679332. Registered office: Al Khawd, Al Seeb, Muscat Governorate, Sultanate of Oman, P.O. Box 123, Postal Code 124. Name in Arabic: رفاق الكثبان لتأجير السيارات ش.م.م
- You: the person who signs the rental agreement at pick-up (the "renter").
The car is a 4x4 with a hard-shell roof-top tent and a camping kit. Our cars are the Jeep Wrangler 4-door and the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2024. The model is in your booking confirmation. The exact car is named in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
The photos on our website are stock photos. They do not show our own cars. Jeep®, Wrangler®, Toyota®, Land Cruiser® and Prado® are trademarks of their respective owners.
Who may drive
Only the drivers named in the rental agreement may drive the car. An additional driver is a paid extra, priced on request.
Every driver must show at pick-up:
- a valid national driving licence;
- a passport;
- an International Driving Permit, if Oman requires one for a licence from your country. Ask us about yours before you book.
The minimum age and the number of years you must have held your licence are set by the insurer. Your booking confirmation tells you both, before you pay the deposit. If a driver does not meet these rules or does not have the documents, that person may not drive the car. What happens to your booking and to the money you have paid in this case is set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
Rental period, pick-up and return
- Minimum rental: 3 days.
- How days are counted: we count the nights between the pick-up date and the return date. Each night is one rental day. Example: pick-up on 10 March and return on 13 March is 3 rental days.
- Times: pick-up and return are between 08:00 and 20:00 (Oman time). Night pick-up is a paid extra, priced on request.
- Places: Muscat International Airport (arrivals), or a hotel or address in Muscat city. Delivery to a hotel or address anywhere in Muscat city is included in the price.
Condition at pick-up. Before you sign, check the car, the roof-top tent and the camping kit, and tell us about any damage or missing item. How their condition is recorded is set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up. If you find damage or a missing item after you leave, send us a photo on WhatsApp +968 7673 3227 as soon as you notice it.
Our obligations
- We give you a car of the model in your booking confirmation, insured, with the roof-top tent and the camping kit.
- During the rental you can reach us on WhatsApp or by phone at +968 7673 3227.
- If we cancel your booking, or cannot give you a car of the model you booked and you do not accept the alternative we offer, we refund everything you have paid, in full. If the car or the camping kit breaks down and it is not your fault, what we do is set out in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
- This page and the rental agreement do not take away your rights under the law, for example your right to get your money back for a rental that we do not provide. They do not limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our fault.
Payments
All prices are in Omani rials (OMR). Prices on our website are estimates. There is no online payment on our website. Your booking confirmation gives you the final price. It is the total you pay for the rental and the extras you chose. It includes 5% Omani VAT.
There are two different things, and they work differently:
| Topic | Deposit | Security deposit |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An advance payment of 30% of the rental price | A hold (block) on your card. It is not a payment, but you cannot use that amount while the hold is active |
| When | To confirm your booking, after we send the booking confirmation | At pick-up |
| What happens next | It is part of the rental price | We release it after you return the car, minus the charges described below |
- Deposit (30%): you pay it to confirm your booking. Your booking confirmation tells you how to pay. Read it, including the cancellation policy, before you pay.
- Balance: you pay the rest of the rental price at pick-up.
- Security deposit: the amount, the cards we accept for the hold, and how many days after the return we release it are set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
- Extras (additional driver, child seat, ground tent, night pick-up): priced on request and confirmed in your booking confirmation. Delivery to a hotel or address in Muscat city is included.
Charges on the security deposit. We may take from the security deposit only amounts that are set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up. We release the rest of the hold after you return the car. How long it takes before you see the release depends on your bank. If you do not agree with a charge, write to us at info@dunetribe4x4.com.
Cancellation. The cancellation policy is in your booking confirmation. It says whether you get the deposit back if you cancel. Read it before you pay the deposit. The rental is booked for fixed dates, so you do not have a 14-day right of withdrawal (cooling-off period).
What your booking confirmation tells you
We send you your booking confirmation by email or WhatsApp before you pay the deposit. The following terms are set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up:
- the final price, the price of each extra you chose, and how to pay the deposit;
- the cancellation policy, including whether you get the deposit back if you cancel;
- the security deposit amount, the cards we accept for the hold, and when we release it;
- the insurance: the insurer, the excess, and what is covered and not covered (for example tyres, glass, recovery and driving on sand and gravel tracks);
- the minimum driver age and the number of years you must have held your licence;
- where you may drive (for example outside Oman or away from paved roads), and which uses of the car are not allowed;
- the fuel policy, any mileage limit, and the rules and charges for late return, cleaning, smoking and pets;
- what you pay for damage to the car, and for lost or damaged camping kit;
- how traffic fines and violations during your rental are paid, including fines that we receive after you return the car;
- when we may end the rental early and take back the car, and what happens to the money you have paid in that case;
- any cover for personal belongings;
- all other amounts, fees and charges.
If something is missing or not clear, do not pay the deposit. Ask us first at info@dunetribe4x4.com or on WhatsApp +968 7673 3227.
Insurance and excess
Every car is insured for the whole rental. Before you pay the deposit, your booking confirmation tells you:
- the name of the insurer;
- the excess (the part of the cost of damage covered by the insurance that you pay yourself);
- the cover for tyres, glass and recovery;
- whether the insurance covers driving on sand and gravel tracks, including the marked tracks in Wahiba Sands;
- the cases where the insurance does not apply. In those cases you may have to pay more than the excess.
The same terms are in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up. Please read them before you sign.
Using the car
Use the car with care and follow Omani traffic law at all times.
- In Wahiba Sands, drive only on marked tracks.
- Wild camping is common in Oman. When you camp, keep away from villages, farms and private land, and leave no trace.
- Where you may drive (for example outside Oman or away from paved roads) and which uses of the car are not allowed are set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up. Before you book, ask us by email or WhatsApp which tracks you may use on your route.
For your safety, never drive into flowing water in a wadi.
Roof-top tent and camping kit
The roof-top tent is for 2 adults. The camping kit includes bedding, a fridge, a stove, chairs, a table, lights, a compressor and a recovery kit. A ground tent for 2 more people is an optional paid extra.
- Open, use and close the tent with care. If you are not sure how, ask us at pick-up.
- Close and secure the tent before you drive.
- Do not put more than 2 adults in the roof-top tent.
- Use the stove with care and turn it off after use.
- Never light a fire or use the stove in or on the tent.
- Return the tent and all the camping kit with the car.
What you pay if part of the kit is lost or damaged is set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
Breakdown, accident and theft
If the car breaks down, has an accident or is stolen:
- Keep yourself and your passengers safe. If you are on the road, stop in a safe place.
- If someone is hurt or in danger, call 9999 (Royal Oman Police emergency number).
- Tell us as soon as you can: WhatsApp or phone +968 7673 3227, or email info@dunetribe4x4.com.
What else you must do (for example, how to report an accident or a theft to the police, and who may repair the car), what the insurance covers and what you pay are set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
Returning the car
Return the car, the roof-top tent and the camping kit in the condition they were in at pick-up, apart from normal wear from careful use. What you pay for damage, missing items, cleaning or late return is set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up.
Personal belongings
Keep your belongings safe. Do not leave valuables where people can see them, in the car or in the tent. Before you return the car, check that you have taken everything. Any cover for personal belongings is set out in your booking confirmation and in the rental agreement you sign at pick-up. We recommend that you have travel insurance.
Data protection
We use your personal data to prepare and manage your rental. This includes the passport, driving licence and International Driving Permit (if you need one) that you show at pick-up, and the card you use for the security deposit hold. Booking requests are deleted automatically from our database 12 months after you send them. If you rent a car, we keep the rental agreement, invoices and payment records for as long as Omani tax and commercial law requires. For more details, read our Privacy policy.
Law, courts and complaints
The rental agreement is governed by the law of the Sultanate of Oman. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not take away the protection that the mandatory law of the country where you live gives you, where that law applies.
The courts of Muscat have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, you may also bring a claim in the courts of the country where you live, where the law of that country allows it.
Nothing on this page or in the rental agreement limits your right to complain to a consumer protection authority.
